Urology is that branch of medical science that focuses on the diagnosis and treatments of the diseases of the male and female urinary tract and also on the disorders of the male reproductive system. The various parts of the human body that urology covers are urinary bladder, urethra, ureters, adrenal glands, kidneys and the complete male reproductive system. A urologist is a physician who is a specialist in this particular field.
Urologists diagnosis and treat the disorders of all the organs mentioned above. The list of the diseases that they treat include prostatitis, urinary tract infections, enlargement of the prostate gland, kidney stones, infertility among males and females, sexual dysfunctioning in males or females, inconsistent urination, etc. Some of the urologists who have specialization in reconstruction can also fix any abnormalities of the urinary tract that have been present since birth. They also assist in cases like accidents where a person has suffered a great deal of trauma.
Doctors who specialize in curing the above mentioned diseases in children are known as pediatric urologists. They deal with the common problems among children like bed – wetting and other urinary tract infections that could occur as a result of this. Most of the time, all these conditions, are treated by the same physician. However there could be situation when your urologist could ask you to see a specialist in a particular area. Since urology has many sub – fields to it, this situation could be possible. Sometimes an urologist could also work along with doctors from other fields if the patient is suffering from multiple diseases.
