Radiology / Radiologists

Most of the disease that we suffer from can be diagnosed from the symptoms that we show. But others are embedded inside are bodies and show no particular signs or symptoms. In order to diagnose these diseases our body or that particular area which has been affected has to be visualized from within, to reach a perfect diagnosis. The field of medical signs that involves the use of imaging to diagnose and treat diseases which are present in the inner parts of the human body is called radiology.
Radiology makes use of modern technologies li ke x – rays, ultrasound, CT scan, MRI scan, nuclear medicine, etc. in order to detect diseases within the body. A physician who is involved in obtaining and analyzing these kinds of images is known as a radiologist. The main job of a radiologist is to interpret the data that he has obtained through the above mentioned techniques, compare the data with any other tests done like blood tests, etc., and then suggest the course of action to be taken after discussing the situation with the patient’s physician. Apart from this radiologists can also provide treatment through radiation in cases of different kinds of cancers or can also conduct image – guided surgery which is also known as interventional radiology.
A radiologist can have many people working under him like a radiologist assistant who performs the examinations, helps in interpreting data and sometimes also helps in surgery, a radiologic technologist who acts as an assistant to the radiologist and operates the equipments and a radiologic nurse who basically provides the patient with all the care and attention that he needs.
