Orthopedics is that branch of medical science that deals with the diagnosis and treatments of the diseases of the musculoskeletal system which includes part of the body like bones and joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. It is this system that helps human beings and most of the animals to move their muscles and skeletal parts of the body. 

Doctors that cure the illnesses related to these parts of the body are known as orthopedicians. These diseases are cured either by surgery or they use non – surgical methods to cure them. Most of the pr oblem s that these doctors handle are arthritis, osteoporosis, bone and joint injuries, sports injuries, treatment of tumours in the bones, etc. Normally the number of years of education that an orthopedician has to undergo is almost 13 years during which the doctor can decide to take up a speciality that could focus on any part of the body like joint replacement, hand, musculoskeletal oncology, etc.

Most of the orthopedicians are into consultation or surgery. These surgeries that they undertake are usually joint replacement surgeries or repairing of damaged nerves, etc. apart from adults they also treat children. They are called pediatric orthopedicians. These doctors also are involved in carrying out a lot of research. This research helps in finding out better methods of taking care of bones, joints and muscles and could also help in discovering new and better treatments for the same. Some of the orthopedic doctors are also involved in the field of education.
